So. Hubby is working an extra night shift this round...tonight being the last of it. "KBB came over late (as in after dinner...) and Pumpkin was already in bed (more on that in a minute)...so we did our usual girl thing...sit on the couches with our blankets and watch crap on tv. {For those of you that for some reason don't already know....KBB is my brother W's "?"...as in...ex girlfriend although ex sounds kinda harsh considering that they are friends...and not dating anyone...and...she's still my really good friend...and Pumpkin thinks she's her best friend...I guess a more appropriate term would be his NON girlfriend...friend. There. Make sense? I digress.} Anyway. Well, she has to work early tomorrow so she fell asleep...and I woke her up and sent her home...my tummy wasn't feeling so hot and I couldn't enjoy the movie anyhow so I told her I'd get it back to her later (Sex and the City-the MOVIE) and sent her on her way. I got to feeling better later so I put the movie in...thought nothing of sitting alone in the living room watching it.
Pumpkin has been deciding randomly to go to bed early. She asked if I would fix her a drink that she was allowed to have in her room (meaning one with a lid...I don't let her have drinks in her room during the day usually) but she wanted to go to bed. OK...can't argue there. One down one to go, right? So she was in bed at 7. About halfway through my movie-HOURS later, mind you-she wakes up frantically calling me down the hall..."Mommy, hurry...Mommy? I need you...come quick...Mommy hurry please hurry..." Geez....I about broke my neck trying to get to her quickly enough out of my Sex and the City daze... I rush into her room and she hops out of bed (no light except the color changing Cinderella night light) and spins around as if she is searching her room. "Mommy, we need to...I need...." I scooped her up and sat her with me on her bed....and asked WHAT it was she needed (at 1a.m.)..."Mommy we need to bake a cake!"....So I guess all that last minute grocery shopping for Thanksgiving really must have done her in? Bless her little heart she wants to help take care of all the prep. I told her we'd find some stuff to bake when it was NOT the middle of the night. Too cute.
So tomorrow we will be baking. I plan to try out a new recipe for an Apple Butter Pumpkin Pie (I'll let ya know how it turns out) and possibly a Pumpkin Pie cheesecake. I know they bear striking similarities...but we do Thanksgiving with Hubby's extended family as well as mine. 11am and 3pm...So I usually either double or make similar things to bring to each. At my mom's I kind of help her fill in the gaps of what everyone else doesn't bring. Then I usually incorporate that somehow into deciding how to fulfill whatever I'm asked to bring to Hubby's uncle's house.
Mom wanted Bacon Brussels Sprouts (she saw a new version that sounded good) so I am making those...then I'm sneaking a new squash casserole recipe in to the buffet line just so we can enjoy seeing my Pappy's face (Mom's dad) when we tell him it was SQUASH that he just devoured...he insists that he doesn't eat such a thing. Funny. And I'm trying to perfect a Mini Tartlet appetizer type thing that uses crescent rolls as the base..but I am recreating the fillings to suit me. I didn't like what they chose in the recipe I saw so I started getting creative. I'll let ya know if that one is a success or a bomb.
Better get ready for bed...I apparently have a lot of "dreams" to fulfill tomorrow where my 3 yr old baker is concerned. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!
