Catching up...

So it's been a while, huh? My thoughts are still so scrambled that often I feel like they aren't worth writing down. So here's a little scrambled update, okay?

The hubby just wrapped up six WONDERFUL weeks of straight day shifts. As in, walk in the front door at 4:15 everyday, Monday-Friday. I absolutely would LOVE it if that were always the case. As you know...(or perhaps you don't?)I am such a control freak. Rotating schedules, like the one included in his lovely career arrangements, are quite difficult for the type-A person that I am. I think in many ways it caused my efforts to "loosen up" to backtrack. I soaked up every bit of the predictability, and routine that I could. Ahhhh...early dinners, structured naps for my girls, planned family walks for evening exercise...you get the idea. Pure bliss if you ask me. But it's back to rotating shifts, which is fine by me. For I also have come to appreciate the occasional night shift for the sake of staying up late, uninterrupted by his need to run me out of the computer room for his turn. And choosing when I go to bed, without consideration of anyone else. Just some "me time" if only for a little while.

Speaking of "me time"...after much searching, researching, overloading my photography-interested friends with questions, etc. I finally purchased my first digital SLR camera. Not top-of-the-line, not bottom of the barrel, just somewhere in between. I am so excited to dive deep into the photography world...I have been wanting something that I could do, a hobby of sorts, that wasn't just tossing money out the window. You know, like some people choose hobbies or activities like hmmm...paintball for instance. I know that's a lame example...but you get the point. I mean, constantly buying new paintball guns and the balls...etc. Seems rather silly. Nothing left after a day of play but a bunch of splatty clothes! My first hobby of choice is slightly out of reach at the moment:playing the piano, considering the minor detail that I no longer live in a house that has one. And it's not exactly at the top of the list of things our family can just go out and buy right now, if you know what I mean. So choice #2 was photography, which has been another longstanding desire.

Of course, I am juggling quite a few other things right now amid my efforts to figure out the basics to the camera. Things like, finding a way to make the screeeeeching sounds of a 16 month old CEASE! Or, how to cut corners on my children's birthday parties and still make them feel special. And how do I keep my house at an acceptable standard of clean when I have this chid:

(though sweet an innocent she may appear...looks can be deceiving!)deciding that she will "decorate" my kitchen during every meal/snack??? For example:

KC Masterpiece Chips, anyone? (Okay, and a little bit of supper from the night before...I didn't get to it-back off!)Or how about how in the WORLD can I get this baby weight off faster, while still keeping my calories at an acceptable number to sustain milk production for breastfeeding? What about how do I possibly manage to make it to my weekly biblestudy group with a child suffering separation anxiety, not to mention weeks of illness?! Aaaaggghhh!

And to be honest, while things are absolutely the most chaotic that I think they've ever been, they truly are some of the sweetest moments ever. I know I will look back on these times and smile, for I am already smiling while I'm IN the moments. (Well, most of the time anyway!)Speaking of sweet moments, our Pumpkin decided during one of many conversations about Fall recently that we should bake a pie. First she thought we should carve a pumpkin and make a pumpkin pie (geez, I really gotta teach her about those nifty little cans of pumpkin...hehehe!)but we quickly moved onto the idea of an apple pie. We decided to send Daddy to the store (with her in tow) to buy some apples. Oh, what fun we had! And not bad for the first try either, might I add! Here's a few pics:

Yes, those are the things sweet memories are made of. Lots more to catch up on in the blog world, but for now my dear husband has created quite the routine of early bedtime and now I'm stuck...so I'll save the rest for later, okay? Happy Fall!
