New Year, New Place, New Projects, New Outlook!

Well, you guessed it. Its "in with the new" (and hopefully improved) around here. Even the "here" has changed since I last posted!
The old boring days of nothing to write about are long gone, only to be replaced with no time to write! I might have eluded to a lot of decisions we were making in the last year, but of course I was cautiously vague. One of those decisions involved a big move, and we weren't really sure of the details until the final decision was made and boy howdy did we set off on a roller coaster from there!
In August of last year my hubby got the phone call he'd been anticipating. He had interviewed for a job in the "Big City" and they were calling to extend the offer, AKA rock my world. From there we made the drastic change from all things familiar to a world of unknowns. He arrived in the big city  on Labor Day weekend, to begin orientation and training on Tuesday of that week. By Friday, the girls and I had ants in our pants and could wait no longer. We'd had enough of being away from Daddy, especially while he was "starting our new life" without us! So Friday we loaded up every. single. thing. we could possibly squeeze in my Suburban and headed to the Big City. Let me pause to say that I still smile to think my Dad must have laughed hysterically at the sight of me driving in Big City traffic with my 3 girls. I'm not thrilled at that type of traffic, and I certainly would have never told you I would LIVE near it!
From there we spent about 3 months in a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment in the MIDDLEOFBIGCITY (part of our relocation package with hubby's company) while I house hunted DAILY. What a sight we were, my three girls and me. And God bless our realtor-she accompanied us in and out of more than seventy-five (75!) houses. So after many late nights, long days, millions of phone calls, stressful conversations, stacks of paper, long road trips....you get the picture ....we finally moved into our new house the week after Thanksgiving.
Since then we have been learning about the area-where to shop, finding favorite restaurants, trying out churches, and praying to find new friends. We have finally landed in a rather large church, which is about to launch another campus (also close by). We are thrilled to have finally plugged in somewhere, and we are just getting started in a couples' small group. We're also looking forward to our individual groups (women's group for me, and men's for my husband) which start this Friday. So I guess that means more great friends around the corner!
I've been keeping myself rather busy making our house feel like a home, unpacking, painting (I'm nowhere near finished with that), and finding thrifty projects to fulfill my "decor therapy". And in the midst of all that, welcoming visitors from "home" periodically. It's been an interesting ride so far, and I hope to keep the blog updated more frequently now that the pace is changing finally. I'll leave you with a few pictures today....and hopefully another post in the near future with some more.

Enjoy!
Ashley

Before pics of the living room-

Fireplace wall, aaaaaall the way up to the vaulted ceiling:

Another shot of the living room (excuse the dark picture, this was prior to the power turn-on. Either way, the "Navajo Orange" color is way more dreadful in person.

Hopefully I will have a few "afters" for you soon!
